have you seen/heard about the movie sinners?
if you've watched it but haven't dove into the many think pieces floating around about its symbolism, i'd encourage you to do a quick web/social media search. but more than that, i'm curious—what did YOU take from it? share your thoughts with me.
in this video, i talk about and show evidence of connections to mississippi, juke joints, love, religion, spirituality, and the supernatural through my family tree documentation.
here's what i really want to talk about though: instead of investing so much time learning about people who don't even know we're alive, what if we turned that energy toward our own family trees? i've been documenting mine, and it's been incredible. if you don't have family history to dig through, remember—you ARE the one the next generation will depend on. start where you are now. document your stories. start archiving.
let me be clear about something—i don't subscribe to any one belief system, and i don't argue with people who tell me that because i'm "black" i need to practice "this or that." i definitely don't believe things must be done a certain way, because there are many who do, and i would never trade places with them. what works for me works for me.
and here's my biggest invitation: stop relying on hollywood to introduce you to the stories that make all our lives color-filled. stop waiting for things to become a trend before you get curious. magic lies in curiosity—even if it feels like no one else around you is interested. that's not what a spiritual walk is about. if it's on your mind, it's on your mind for a reason.
